AYMFC: LAST YEAR CHAPIONS KNOCKED OUT


Last year semifinalist Pero Boys advanced to the quarterfinals after a narrow 1-0 victory over Kaltungo boys.
Abubakar Manu scored the only goal that separated the two sides and ensured the Pero boy’s qualification after 27 minutes of play.
Kaltungo boys pressed for an equalizer which was not fruitful as Pero boys were well organized at the back despite collecting 3 bookings.
However, Kaltungo Boys were lucky to have conceded only one goal as the Pero boys Captain Ibro drive a low shot which was well dealt with.
Barcelona FC also advanced to the next round in the late kickoff match against the defending champions Kalorgu United after  penalty shootout ended 2-3 in their favor with the normal 90minutes ending in a 1-1 draw.
Kalorgu United who won the maiden edition of the competition last year took the lead 2minutes into the second half when Abduyel Abdu scored from the spot when he was brought down in the box.
Barcelona got back into the game when Umar Sale stepped in to converted a penalty in the 73rd minutes.
The match ended with 6 players getting into the referees booking.
John Toro of Barcelona scored the last penalty in the shootout which ensured Barcelona’s qualification and dashed Kalorgu United’s dream of defending the title.
Pero boys and Barcelona became the third and fouth clubs respectively to book their places in the quarter finals of the competition joining Amdo FC and Oska Fc.
The round of 16 matches continue tomorrow  were Aston Vila FC takes on last year’s runners up All stars Fc by 2pm while Kampandi United Play Kalaring United at 4pm at the Obasanjo township stadium Kaltungo.
