The gaffer was speaking to the club's media ahead of their opening match against Heartland Fc of Owerri scheduled for Tuesday 2 /11/ 21 at the Sani Abacha stadium, Kano.
He said the Savannah Scorpions are not participating with the aim of winning the the tourney, but to serve as an avenue to test the strength and weakness of his squad and to ensure that both the old and new signings gelled together.
" If we win the tourney, it's okay, however our main target is to create a bond and chemistry in the team in order to make positive impact in the elite league".
Aliyu Zubairu gave a pat on the back of the Executive Governor of Gombe state, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Ɗan Majen Gombe) for his benevolence to the club and assured to reciprocate the gesture by fighting for continental slots.
"You see his excellency Governor Inuwa Yahaya has done a lot to us; he is still doing more, and the best way to express our appreciation is to grab one of the four continental tickets at the end of the season".
The towering and optimistic football tactician further explained that his target for this season God willing is to win the domestic league.
"Some may think that would not be possible because there are no big names in the squad, but it's achievable with the calibre of players we have".
Gombe United are paired in group A in the Ahlan Cup alongside Heartland Fc, neighbours - El-kanemi Warriors and Kano selected.
