GOMBE STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR, DR. MANASSAH DANIEL JATAU INAUGURATES MAIN ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF DAN MAJEN GOMBE FOOTBALL COMPETITION

The Main Organising Committee of the maiden edition of Dan Majen Gombe Football Competition were inaugurated today at the Hajiya Amina Hall as part of the activities to mark the beginning of activities which will kick start the competition across all the eleven Local Governments of Gombe State.

The inauguration witnessed the presence of some top government officials including His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau (Tauraron Waja) and the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo Waziri (Gado da Masun Gombe).

In his address, the deputy Governor thanked the Gombe State Sports Commission for giving birth to such a good initiative “I will like to thank the Sports Commission for finding it worthy to conceive the idea of this competition which will go a long way in strengthening the already existing Unity in the state and serve as an avenue for talent identification”.

His Excellency appealed to all participating teams to take sports serious since it has become business and a source of livelihood “To my fellow players and coaches, you should know that sports has become a source of livelihood, a source of employment and a profession as well. Your engagement in sports will educate you and expose you to a lot of things which you may not know”.

He also stressed the importance of sports in fostering unity among people and warned against the use of performance enhancing drugs by athletes “sports bring unity which is the most important part of this competition, make friends, know more people. Sports will unite you, it will give you knowledge and it will bring development.”

“I am pleading, we should use our God given strengths, if you use any performance enhancing drugs just to increase your chance of winning, then you have already failed. Use the strength God has given you and avoid any form of violence because this competition is meant to unify the people” He said.

Dr. Manassah officially inaugurated the organising committee and charged them to be dedicated as their dedication will determine the success or failure of the objectives of the competition.

The Honourable Commissioner Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo Waziri who was a special guest of the occasion assured the committee of his complete supports towards the success of the competition “I will like to assure you of my support to ensure the success of this competition and I pray that it will achieve its aims and objectives. I have spoken to all the local governments about their participation and supports, from the local government level to the main organising committee to ensure the success of this competition”.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of the Sports Commission, Hon. Hamza Adamu Soye thanked His Excellency the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his supports to the Commission. He explained that the Competition was conceived to celebrate the Governor’s new traditional title (Dan Majen Gombe) and to commemorate all his achievements within two years in office “His Excellency has done so much in just two years and we deem it fit to celebrate it in a special way. We don’t need to say much but these giant strides speaks for themselves. This is worth celebrating and we want everyone to be part of it, which is why we are taking it to the grassroots”.

After the inauguration, the draws for Gombe LG was conducted in the presence of all teams’ representatives as other draws for each LGs will come thereafter.

The Competition will see all the 114 political Wards of the 11 LGs of the state present two teams who will compete at the LG levels were by two teams will emerge and represent each LG at the state level.
