64 Teams Set to Compete in 9th Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup

The Main Organizing Committee of the 9th Adamu Yola Gombe South Unity Cup has announced that only 64 teams will participate in this year’s edition, with registration already underway.

Speaking at a press conference to flag off activities for the competition, Chairman of the Committee, Promise Uwaeme, confirmed that clubs have between August 22nd and September 9th to complete their registration.

“As usual, the presser marks the beginning of our activities and immediately after the presser, clubs are encouraged to begin registration. Clubs have from 22nd August to the 9th of September to register,” Promise said.

He explained that despite increased interest, only 64 clubs will be admitted this year.

“We can only take 64 clubs in this edition despite the demand for more clubs to participate. We need to do something that we can monitor and ensure strict compliance with our rules and regulations. If we allow more than this number, it might be difficult to manage,” he noted.

Promise also announced a review of the usual registration fee. He confirmed that teams will pay ten thousand naira non-refundable administration fee instead of the previoue five thousand naira, and urged clubs to acquaint themselves with all competition rules before committing to participate.

“I want to be clear to clubs, we don’t want to have difficulties in explaining our rules and regulations during the competition. So we want every club to study the rules before applying to register. Make sure you are okay with it before proceeding with your application,” he stressed.

On team eligibility, he clarified that each club is allowed to register only three players currently featuring in the Nationwide League One (NLO), while those in the Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) remain ineligible.

“Clubs in the state league downward are allowed to participate. Players in the NNL and NPFL are not allowed to participate,” he added.

The chairman further disclosed that Kalaring United remains suspended from the competition until pending issues with the team are resolved.

Meanwhile, this year’s edition will be staged across multiple centers in the four local government areas. Kaltungo will host 24 teams, Billiri 16, while Shongom and Balanga will register 12 teams each
