The Gombe State Government has approved the dissolution of all existing State Sports Associations with immediate effect, in a move aimed at restructuring the state’s sports sector in line with national guidelines.
The decision, communicated through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi followed the directive of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Gombe State Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
According to the statement, the restructuring exercise will be guided by the provisions of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) 2017 Constitution, as well as the recommendations of the National Sports Commission and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
Speaking on the development, the Hon. Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon. Adamu Inuwa Pantami, explained that the move was part of the state’s broader efforts to reform and strengthen sports administration, coordination, and performance. He assured that a new framework for the reconstitution of the sports associations will be unveiled in due course.
“The dissolution is not an end but a new beginning. Our goal is to build stronger, more effective associations that will drive grassroots development and promote excellence in sports across Gombe State,” Pantami stated.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to creating an enabling environment for sports development, pledging continued collaboration with stakeholders to enhance talent discovery and the growth of sports at all levels in the state.
