The newly elected President of the Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF), Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, PhD, OON (Talban Gombe), has officially assumed office with a strong commitment to transparency, professionalism, and inclusivity in promoting the game of chess across the country.
In a statement issued after his formal inauguration by the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) Electoral Committee, Senator Dankwambo expressed gratitude to the delegates whose confidence and support contributed to his election.
“This moment represents not only a personal honour but a collective milestone for Nigerian chess, this is a new chapter defined by visionary leadership, professionalism, and exemplary sportsmanship,” he said.
The former Gombe State governor commended the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) for their role in ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process.
“Our heartfelt thanks also go to the NSC and NOC for their strategic guidance and for ensuring a faultlessly conducted election. Their exemplary leadership standards serve as an inspiration for all Nigerian sports bodies,” Dankwambo added.
He also paid tribute to the immediate past NCF President, DIG Sani U. Mohammed (Rtd.), and Vice President Adewole Adeyinka Samuel, he acknowledged their dedication and professionalism, which he said has significantly contributed to the growth and reputation of Nigerian chess.
Senator Dankwambo pledged to build “an inclusive, dynamic, and highly professional chess ecosystem” that nurtures young talent from grassroots schools to higher institutions across the nation.
“We are committed to forging sustainable corporate partnerships and alliances that will increase participation, heighten competitive standards, and enhance visibility on both national and international stages,” he said.
As the new leadership begins its tenure, the President called for unity and innovation among board members and stakeholders, and assured that his administration would operate an open-door policy.
“Our collective efforts and innovative thinking will be essential to driving the federation forward. I welcome your insights, creativity, and ideas as we work together to elevate Nigerian chess to unprecedented heights on the global map,” Dankwambo state
