Gombe State chess athlete, Mercy Iliya Namarwa, has appreciated her sponsor, Malam Farouk Yarma, for supporting her participation in the just-concluded World Amateur Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships in Abuja.
Mercy, who competed on the international stage with the backing of Malam Farouk Yarma, returned home with medals from the tournament. In a heartfelt message, she described her sponsor's support as timely, noting that it came at a moment when she needed someone to believe in her ability and invest in her dream.
According to her, the support went beyond financial assistance, as it gave her confidence and reassurance that people genuinely believed in her potential to represent her state and country at any given stage.
Although she had hoped to bring home the trophy, Mercy said she gave her best at the championship and expressed confidence that she could achieve even more with continued support. She dedicated her medals to Malam Farouk Yarma as a token of appreciation for his role in her journey.
"These medals may have my name on them, but a part of their story belongs to you," she said.
